Referral Guidelines

referral-guidelinesAll patients must have a referral prior to treatment.

All patients will be seen by their endoscopist and their anaesthetist prior to admission to the hospital.
Their endoscopist will discuss:

  • Informed consent regarding the proposed procedure
  • Potential therapy
  • Anaesthetic & recovery

Medical Assessment

To ensure patient safety, your Gastroenterologists will assess all their patients over the age of 80 & all their patients on Warfarin and Clopidogrel (or alternate blood thinning medications, excluding Aspirin) at consultation on a day prior to the proposed procedure.

Contraindications to Open Access Endoscopy

Patients

  • under 16 years attending without parent
  • under 12 years
  • with a BMI over 40
  • with unstable medical condition such as emphysema
  • with significant immobility or with difficulty transferring to our beds.
  • Taking anticoagulants (blood thinners) except Aspirin
